Change the World Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge

Changing the World in Chatham-Kent!

On Saturday April 16th youth from all over Chatham-Kent participated in the Provincial wide event “Change the World” volunteer challenge. School groups, church groups and youth led organizations were out in their neighbourhoods or at local social service agencies providing a hand to those who could use a little assistance and receiving items for local food banks in return.

Groups were out from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., despite the cool and rainy weather, helping those at St. Andrew’s United Church, St. Andrew’s residence, United Way of Chatham-Kent, and local residences. Activities included playing cards with seniors, collecting garbage, helping people with their groceries, weeding gardens, singing songs and dancing to make people laugh, reading stories to children, and some groups even made “Change the World” t-shirts to promote the event and the abilities of youth to effect positive change! Local food banks will benefit as hundreds of items were donated for the hard work demonstrated by our young people

.

We at United Way, along with all 21 participating volunteer centres in Ontario, are proud of our youth and thank them for their generosity, ambition and ability to demonstrate their commitment and caring for their local community!
