Activities in the 2014 event included mental and physical challenges both! Racers visited parks, the beach, various businesses and not-for-profit locations and even a church. You can nearly guess the fun they had with water balloons, skateboards, paint ball guns, plane kits, motorbikes, regulators, hula-hoops, darts, carpet bowling, scavenger hunts, dancing, mud pits, vision goggles, blindfolds and more. They visited sites from Dresden to Erieau and ended the day with a celebration for all at Our Saviour’s Evangelical Lutheran Church – right across the street from United Way’s offices on McNaughton Ave. W. in Chatham.
This year, 24 CKAR teams and hundreds of event sponsors and individual donors raised over $55,000 in sponsorships and pledges. Thanks to event sponsors, 100% of the dollars raised by the teams is designated to the UWOCK Community Fund. Agencies, programs and services will receive these funds as a part of United Way’s continued focus on wise community investments.
David Drouillard is the Director, Resource Development for UWOCK. “This is the ninth year for the CKAR event. The total raised to date is just about $735,000 and we’re still counting a few pledges from the weekend. We are so grateful to the sponsors since their support allows pledges from participants to go right back into the community!
For the ninth year, our Signature Sponsor for the CKAR event is Union Gas. They not only kick-start the event financially, they also loan us some of their wonderful people as volunteer planners; they provide a location to start the event; and they recruit a team to plan and host the opening challenges – awesome.
We would also like to especially thank our Silver Sponsors – the Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s Public Health Unit, Maizex Seeds Inc., and Sun Media, our Gold Sponsors – TVCOGECO and Cheshire Media, our Bronze Sponsors – South Kent Wind and Invenergy, and our Site Sponsors – UNIFOR, Dajcor and C.L.A.C.
There isn’t room here to thank the many videographers, challenge site hosts, equipment providers, pledge auditors food and refreshment suppliers, funded agency staff and volunteers, judges, in-car observers, safety volunteers, photographers and event organizers. They know who they are and we hope to see them all at our Video Premiere Night later this year.
The Chatham-Kent Amazing Race is truly an amazing annual event that brings our community closer, allows us all to enjoy a day of fun and adventure and raises important pledges for the agencies working to make CK stronger, safer and caring. Well done Chatham-Kent … well done!”
On Sunday September 28, 2014, runners and walkers from across the Municipality – and a growing number from outside of Chatham-Kent – will assemble at John McGregor Secondary School (near Mud Creek) to participate in a 5K walk or run, a 10K run, a Kid’s Dash and, new for 2014, a half marathon!
In just three short years, thanks to the generous support of many sponsors – including the event’s lead sponsor GreenField Ethanol – this WRACE chip-timed event has raised over $42,000 net to support UWOCK’s many locally funded agencies, programs and services.
Serious runners and walkers, beginners, kids, families and employee groups have been and will again be treated to a morning of fun, food, entertainment, race buffs, finisher medals, prizes and surprises galore.
There is a reduced rate for those registering before Friday, September 06, 2014.
To take advantage of this early rate please visit ckharvestrun.com or contact United Way (519) 354-0430 firstname.lastname@example.org.
